Please be sure to check out the “Upcoming dates to remember” section below. Both our council and the parish will have events upcoming during the next several months. We’ll do our best to keep the list as current as possible via our council newsletter and web page.

Dear Brother Knights,

Our Meeting date for September 2008 is on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 7 PM. REMEMBER that all of our monthly meetings are held in the basement meeting room of the Rectory. Use the rear Rectory entrance for access to the meeting room.

We are still selling our 50/50 tickets after all the Sunday Masses from now until the drawing at the Parish Block Party in September. Any Brother Knight who wishes to help with this effort, please come to the Narthex of the Cathedral a little early after the Masses. You can also pick up tickets at that time if you haven’t received them.

We’ve also just received the “CHANCE OF A LIFETIME” (COAL) tickets and will begin selling them also. Our Brother Knight, Andrew Hack, has agreed to Chair this event for us and will be handing out the tickets at our meeting on August 25, 2008.

Please be sure to check the upcoming dates etc. for information on what we’ll be working on for the next several months.

Last but certainly not least, many thanks to or Harrisburg Diocesan Chapter Knights of Columbus, Cathedral Council 11008, and all who helped to make the 2nd Annual Blue Mass such a wonderful event.

Please always take pride in what we stand for and do as Knights of Columbus.

Chaplain’s Corner

My Dear Brother Knights,

A reminder about our Parish Prayer Chain, if you would be interested in having your email address added to the list, just call the Parish Office and have them add your name/email address to our list.

When we receive information that someone wants or needs prayers their names are added to the email list and an email is sent out by the Parish office requesting you remember them in your prayers.

As you go through your day and have a minute just say a few Hail Mary’s etc. for the people requesting the prayers. It’s as simple as that.

We are so blest to have a wonderful group of people who give tirelessly of their talents and time to our parish, Cathedral School and Bishop McDevitt High School. Please keep them and all of our volunteers in your prayers. We are truly blest to have them all.

May God continue to bless each and every one of you for all your tireless efforts.

Upcoming Events

September 21, 2008: WE WON’T BE COOKING FOR THE HOMELESS TODAY DUE TO OTHER ACTIVITIES AT THE CATHEDRAL.

We’ll resume cooking in October 2008.

September 28, 2008: 2nd Degree ceremony at St. Patrick’s Council Home in Carlisle. The Degree will begin at 2 PM. Candidates should arrive no later than 1:30 PM. Contact Mark Jago at markjago@comcast.net for more information.

Ocotber 12, 2008: Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast today after the 7:30 and 9:30 AM Masses. We’ll need help with this event and its always fun. Please, let Joe Murphy know if you can or will be available to help with it.

October 12, 2008: 3rd Degree beginning at 1 PM at McSherrystown Council 2551. For more information contact Jim Riser at 717-632-0851 or via his email at kofccouncil2551@earthlink.net

October 16, 2008: Our Lady of Lourdes Council 12404 in Enola will hold a 1st Degree beginning at 7PM. Candidates should arrive no later than 6:30 PM to register for the Degree.

November 6, 2008: St. Theresa Council 8921 will hold a 2nd Degree ceremony beginning at 7 PM. Candidates should arrive no later than 6:30 PM to register for the degree ceremony.

DEGREE CANDIDATES PLEASE REMEMBER THAT PROPER ATTIRE FOR ANY DEGREE IS A SUIT & TIE OR SPORT COAT AND TIE. ALSO A CANDIDATE SHOULD ARRIVE NO LATER THAN ONE HALF (1/2) HOUR BEFORE THE START OF A DEGREE. AS WE GET UPDATES ON ANY SCHEDULED DEGREES FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR THE DATES WILL BE POSTED HERE AND ALSO ON OUR COUNCIL’S WEB PAGE.

Help Needed

Again this year we have been asked by Sister Mary Agnes, Principal of our Cathedral School to try and be of some help to the school. If you purchase your groceries at the Giant Stores, we ask that you log onto www.giantplus.com and fill in the information there. Use the Cathedral School for the school name and their id number is 00599. Every time you grocery shop the school gets the benefits from you. It’s a simple way to be of help to the school.

This is an ongoing yearly effort to help the Cathedral School Please try and do what you can when you can.

Our Council at Work

On September 7, 2008, the Harrisburg Diocesan Chapter of the Knights of Columbus celebrated the 2nd Annual “BLUE MASS” to honor and pray for the first responders that serve the greater Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area. Pictured above are members of The State Capitol Police, The Harrisburg City Police Color Guards as well as members of the Knights of Columbus Color Corps who took part in the ceremonies and the “BLUE MASS.” Many thanks, to all who helped to make this such a beautiful and well attended event. One of the Police Officers who attended was overheard to say what a beautiful and fitting tribute it was to all those who have served and continue to serve our Harrisburg Area communities.
